YEAR THREE

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Dollins mentions the cover last, since he obviously couldn't find anything too diabolical on which he could rant. Harry and Hermione are riding buckbeak, the hippogriff, on the cover.

Dollins claims that "it is a mythical creature called a Griffin (half horse, half bird)." WRONG. A Griffin (see symbolism page) is half LION, half EAGLE. The hippogriff has the wings, claws, and head of an eagle and the body and hindquarters of a horse. see

Now to Dollins's book critique: He is upset because Harry inadvertantly hexes his uncle's sister. (not his aunt, since he is not kin to Vernon by blood.) True, Harry should have kept his temper from boiling over, but Marge called Harry's mom a bitch. What would YOU have done in that situation?

Dollins also proves that his knowledge of the books is, well, lacking. He says that professor Lupin's name is Romulus. Wrong brother, Dollins! Lupin's name is Remus.

Dollins exclaims that these books introduce children "to killings and murders!" (exclamation is his.)

The Bible, as I mentioned on the home page, is chock-full of murders and killings.

The killing of people who don't listen to priests (Deut. 17:12), are homosexual (Lev. 20:13), hit their parents (Ex. 21:15), curse their parents Proverbs 20:20; Lev. 20:9), commit adultery (Lev. 20:10), follow other religions (Ex. 22:19) or who do not believe in God (2 Chron. 15:12-13).

The Bible speaks of killing entire towns if one single person worships in another faith ((Deut. 13:13-19), of killing women who are not virgins on their wedding night (Deut. 22:20-21), of killing kids who make fun of bald men (2 Kings 2:23-24) and of killing the curious (1 Sam. 6:19-20). The slaughter of innocent children is also rampant in the Bible -- Isaiah 14:21, Hosea 9:11-16, Ezekiel 9:5-7, Exodus 12:29-30, Leviticus 26:21-22 and Isaiah 13:15-18.

Most importantly, those who are FALSE PROPHETS! ""You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." (Zech. 13:3). Also, Deut. 13:1-5; 18:20-22.

Murder isn't pretty, but if you are going to trash a novel because it mentions death, then you need to look no further than that Bible. As a Christian, I realize that death is a fact of life. That murder has happened since the beginning of time. Masking that fact will never make it go away.

Children today see murder everyday -- television, internet, video games, etc. They are not going to be scarred for life if they read about someone dying.
